WHERE DOES SALADA TEA COME FROM?
Salada carefully selects the best grades of tea from the finest estates in China, largely from the Zhejiang Province in Southern China. A selection of our leaves is also sourced from Argentina.
IS SALADA TEA “FAIR TRADE” TEA?
Salada Tea makes every effort to ensure that the tea we purchase comes from a reputable source and is purchased in a socially responsible manner. Our staff, as well as our importers, have personally visited our tea suppliers and have monitored conditions at the country of origin.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GREEN TEA AND BLACK TEA?
Green tea, like black tea, comes from leaves of the Camellia sinesis plant. The difference occurs during the processing of the tea leaves. Green tea leaves are steamed and then dried shortly after plucking, a process which allows the tea to retain the green color of its leaves as well as its milder flavor and grassier notes. Black tea is allowed to ferment and oxidize before processing, which gives it a darker color, an astringent quality, and a richer flavor.
HOW IS OUR TEA DECAFFEINATED?
Carbon Dioxide (CO2), a gas found in our atmosphere, when pressurized into a liquid becomes a solvent used to extract caffeine. CO2 allows for the retention of more antioxidants and flavor than other decaffeination methods. This method does not create a toxicity hazard to one’s health, and adheres to standards set by the Tea Association of the USA.
DOES THE DECAFFEINATION PROCESS AFFECT THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF GREEN TEA?
Although the decaffeination process always results in a small loss of antioxidant quality, the CO2 method of decaffeination used on Salada decaf green tea preserves more of the health benefits than other methods.
WHAT ARE ANTIOXIDANTS?
An antioxidant is a molecule that prevents the oxidation of other chemicals. In biological systems, the normal process of oxidation produces highly reactive free radicals that can potentially damage cells.
HOW DOES SALADA ENSURE THE QUALITY AND SAFETY OF ITS PRODUCTS?
Our process starts with supplier quality. Ingredients are purchased from approved suppliers. We have established microbiological limits for our teas and herbs and our pesticide testing protocol confirms with FDA regulations.
Ingredients and blends undergo multiple sensory evaluations. Sensory evaluations are performed by our trained laboratory staff and begin before the material is purchased and continue until finished goods are packed.
Finished goods can easily and effectively be traced using our warehouse management system.
